Coppell Copperheads Not Moving To Gainesville

Submitted by admin on Thursday, 5 November 2009No Comment

coppell-copperheadsThe Coppell Copperheads of the Texas Collegiate League had hoped to relocate to Gainesville, TX for the 2010 season.  They had already spoken to officials in Gainesville and had started preparing plans to remodel historic Locke Field.  But those plans have been put on hold now that the Gainesville City Council has decided not to approve a lease agreement with the franchise.

The news caught Copperheads owner David Apple by surprise.  The Copperheads have already notified officials in Coppell that they will be relocating, so the team now finds itself without a home for the 2010 season.  According to Apple, the team has looked at other options (including returning to Coppell), but no decisions have been made.  He also said that he hopes to be able to speak to members of the Gainesville City Council to restart negotiations.

The Coppell Copperheads  won the 2009 Texas Collegiate League championship defeating the Victoria Generals in the championship round.  It was the Copperheads’ third championship in the six year history of the league.
