Golden Giants Hire New Head Coach
The Topeka Golden Giants have hired John Tauten as their head coach for the 2010 season. He replaces Kent Becker who stepped down after the 2009 season.
Tauten, a former baseball standout at Topeka’s Hayden High School, served as the Golden Giants assistant coach for the past five years. He pitched for Wichita State and was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in 2002. He retired from professional baseball in 2004. He returned to Topeka in 2005 and began working with the Golden Giants.
Tauten will manage his first game for the Golden Giants in June 2010 at the newly remodeled Lake Shawnee Ballpark. The 2010 season will also be the first in the team’s history that they will be playing an independent schedule. The team left the MINK League following the 2009 season.
More information can be found on the Topeka Golden Giants website.
