Petersburg Generals Name New Head Coach
The Petersburg Generals of the Coastal Plain League have announced the hiring of Robert “Bob” Smith to be their head coach for the 2010 season. He takes over a Generals team that finished a league worst 19-37 in 2009.
Smith has a long coaching resume going back to the early 1980’s. He began his coachig career as a graduate assistant coach at Louisiana State University. He then moved on to stints as an assistant coach at the university of Kentucky and the University of Tennessee. He alsp spent four years at Virginia Commonwealth University before opening the Richmond Baseball Academy in Richmond, VA.
Smith played college baseball at Mississippi State University. He was part of the 1979 team that won the Southeast Conference Championship.
