Rapids Add Assistant Coaches
The Rockbridge Rapids of the Valley Baseball League have announced that they have hired assistant coaches Steve Crosier, Evan Wise, and J.R. Blevins for the 2010 season. They will work under the direction of head coach Greg Keaton.
Following a career in professional baseball, Crosier took on the job of head baseball coach at South Charleston (WV) High School. He stayed there for 11 years and compiled a 278-118 record. Last year, Crosier worked in the Tampa Bay Rays minor league system before leaving to teach and coach at Nitro (WV) High school.
Wise will take on the pitching coach duties for the Rapids. He is currently an assistant baseball coach at Catawba Valley Community College in Hickory, NC. He is a graduate of Lenoir Rhyne University where he played baseball for two years. Following his playing career, Wise spent one year as an assistant coach at Lenoir Rhyne. He also spent the summer of 2009 as an assistant coach with the Gastonia Grizzlies of the Coastal Plain League.
Blevins is still an active player at the University of South Carolina-Sumter. He is an infielder who was a two-time All-State selection during high school in West Virginia. Blevins comes to the Rapids with prior coaching experience. He was the head coach of the Logan (WV) 18U team.
