Turks Add Assistant Coach

harrisonburg-turksThe Harrisonburg Turks of the Valley Baseball League have announced that they have hired Larry Mitchell to be the team’s pitchiong coach in 2010.  He will work under the direction of manager Bob Wease.

Mitchell was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 42nd round of the 1989 draft.  Instead, Mitchell opted to attend James Madison University.  While playing at JMU, Mitchell also played for the Harrisonburg Turks.

Following his college baseball career, Mitchell was drafted in the 5th round of the MLB draft by the Philadelphia Phillies.  In addition to the Phillies, Mitchell played for the Baltimore Orioles, Chicago White Sox, New York Yankees, and for the Oaxaca Guerreros of the Mexican Professional Baseball League.

Following his professional baseball career, Mitchell served as the head baseball coach at Charlottesville (VA) High School and later as a pitching coach at St. Anne’s-Belfield School.  Mitchell is currently completing his degree at JMU.
