cape-cod-baseball-leagueThe Cape Cod League has announced that the 2009 season will usher in some changes for the league.  There will only be one game on opening night – a change that was implimented in 2008 — to allow players and fans from throughout the league to enjoy the league’s opening night festivities.  This years opening night game will feature the Harwich Mariners and the Cotuit Kettleers at Whitehouse Field in Harwich.

For the remainder of the summer (through August 5) there will be a least one game every night.  Although each team will have occasional off days, the league will have games every night.  In fact, nine of the leagues’ ten teams will have at least one night when they are the only game on the schedule.

The 2009 season will also feature one off-Cape game.  This game will be played on July 9 at Martha’s Vineyard High School in Oak Bluffs and will feature Falmouth and Wareham.

The league will also implement a new playoff plan.  Each division winner and runner-up will qualify for the playoffs, as will the next two teams, regardless of division, with the best records.
