Golden Giants to Leave MINK League
The Topeka Golden Giants have announced that they will leave the MINK League effective October 10, 2009 and will play an independent schedule in 2010. The move will allow the Golden Giants to play teams throughout the Midwest other than the teams in the MINK League.
Thomas Brett Cowdin, president of the Topeka Golden Giants, made the announcement on behalf of the team. He praised the MINK League and thanked the league for the five years Topeka was a member. However, Cowdin explained, he felt the time was right for the organization to go in a different direction, playing an independent schedule and helping to spread summer college baseball throughout the Midwest.
Barring any changes, the MINK League will enter the 2010 season with eight teams in Missouri, Iowa and Nebraska.
