Topeka Golden Giants Change Their Name…For One Month

Submitted by admin on Saturday, 6 March 2010No Comment

google-golden-giantsThe Topeka Golden Giants have changed their team name for the month of March to the Google Golden Giants.  The change comes as a show of solidarity with the City of Topeka which has agreed to change its name to Google, KS.

The name change from Topeka to Google is an effort by Mayor Bill Bunten to convince Google to choose Topeka as a test site for their new fiber optic network.  The new network is said to be 100 times faster than current Internet speeds, transferring data at more than one gigabit per second.

Google announced that they will be installing the new fiber optic network in one or more cities in the U.S.  Topeka was one of the first cities to volunteer to be among the first to receive the new network.  The Golden Giants wanted to support the effort and agreed to change their name to help Topeka’s effort.

Additional information can be found on the Topeka Golden Giants website.
